HOW WE CAN HELP

Confidence in Your Carbon Footprint

Ever feel uncertain about your Scope 3 emissions calculations? You're not alone. These calculations are complex containing many explicit and implicit assumptions that are hard to validate and processes that are difficult to automate.

That's where we come in. We help businesses gain clarity through:

  • Peer Benchmarking: Compare your calculations to peers from within your industry.

  • Consultancy and Automation Services: Get expert support with your calculations.

DATA

Benchmark Your Portfolio: Explore Granular Industry Data

We've built a one-stop shop to compare your Scope 3 emissions against industry peers. This means you can:

  • Fast-track your materiality assessment: analyze which Scope 3 categories your peers report and assess the relative magnitude of the categories that they do report.

  • Fill in the gaps: if you haven't gotten around to completing all your calculations yet, fill the gaps in your calculations with placeholders from our peer benchmarks.

  • Benchmark your progress: See how your emissions compare to similar companies, and track your progress towards your sustainability goals.

Portfolio managers: Take things a step further.  Benchmark individual assets or your entire portfolio against industry benchmarks at a much granular level (100 industries x 15 scope 3 categories). The full set of benchmarks are currently available on request.

  • What type of GHG calculations to your services cover?
We offer consultancy, calculation and automation services for any combination of Scope 1, 2 and all the sub-categories of Scope 3. We also offer forecasting support as an input to target setting exercises such as SBTi.
  • What are the main steps of a GHG emissions limited assurance process?
Our team will lead you through a verification process to evaluate whether your GHG inventory statement is materially correct and conforms to criteria as set out by a recognized standard such as the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard. We collect relevant information from you that was used in your calculation process including the data inputs, assumptions and calculation methods. For example, to validate a Scope 2 inventory we would normally request access to the utility bills that we used to quantify the activities and then assess the assumptions emissions factors (CO2e/kWh) that were used to convert the activities into emissions results. Scope 3 calculations involve a large number of systems including purchase ledgers, logistics data, HR data, etc so we typically take a sample of the data sources and calculations in the most important categories for the larger businesses and geographies. Once the verification process is complete we will provide with a report confirming a statement of Limited Assurance.
  • What is the difference between limited and reasonable assurance and which of these services do you offer?
There are two main levels of assurance for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions statements: limited and reasonable. Limited Assurance: This provides a moderate level of confidence that the emissions information is free from material misstatements. The process involves reviewing key areas but not conducting an exhaustive examination. We currently offer limited assurance services. Reasonable Assurance: This offers a high level of confidence in the accuracy of the information. It requires a more in-depth review and testing of data. We plan to offer reasonable assurance in the future as regulations evolve. Our Current Service Since transparency and accuracy are crucial in sustainability reporting, we currently focus on providing limited assurance for GHG emissions statements. This service helps ensure your reported emissions are reliable while remaining cost-effective. In the future, as regulations and stakeholder expectations shift towards a higher level of verification, we plan to expand our services to include reasonable assurance engagements.
  • Which reporting period is the data from?
The first release of data includes GHG disclosures for many thousands of companies for the 2022 and 2023 reporting periods.
  • When will the 2024 dataset be available?
We expect to start releasing data from the 2024 reporting period in Q2 2025. There is typically a 3-6 month lag between when a company closes the financial year and when they disclose their GHG emissions but next year will be the first year when we see a more timely release of data as a result of the new CSRD standards.
  • What do I get when I pay for one of the company datasets?
For each industry we give away a free sample of 2 companies which will allow you to preview what data is available when you use up your credits. Inside the https://carbonbenchmark.me portal you can construct customer peer groups and compare individual companies at the detailed sub-category level of Scope 1, 2 and 3. You can then download the custom peer groups to Excel. The Excel file includes the following data and functionality for each peer group that your download: 1. Tonnes CO2e These are the raw disclosures taken directly from the sustainability reports of the reporting companies. 2. KgCO2e per USD Here we have divided the emissions by the revenues of the companies to allow emissions disclosures to be compared and aggregated across companies. 3. Normalized peer averages The peer average kgCO2e/USD in GHG each category and Scope 3 sub-category. 4. Peer analysis Here you can compare the disclosed emissions (tonnes CO2e) of an individual peer company to the sub-category level peer average benchmarks (which we have scaled to match the size of that company). 5. Compare yourself with peers Here you can enter your own company-specific emissions and financial data to enable a comparison with the peer benchmark averages.
