** Additionally, non-EU companies with turnover above EUR 150 m per year in the EU and that have in the EU either a branch with turnover exceeding EUR 40 m or a subsidiary that is a large company or a listed SME will have to report on the sustainability impacts at the group level of that non-EU company: Reporting in 2029 on 2028 data.
WHAT IS VSME?
VSME is the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for non-listed SMEs. It was developed by EFRAG the standard setter for EU-led sustainability reporting initiatives.
While CSRD is targeted at larger/publicly-listed companies, VSME is targeted at micro, small and medium-sized reporting companies (SMEs).
EFRAG released the VSME Standard in December 2024 and then released a suite of Digital Reporting tools in May 2025. However, the EFRAG tool is Excel-based and they are actively encouraging vendors such as Carbon Benchmark to develop online versions of the tool, which improve the user experience but at the same time build upon the EFRAG taxonomies and integrate with their digital reporting validation tools.

Built-in peer benchmarks
We have collected the sustainability disclosures from over 10,000 companies and mapped the quantitative disclosures to the 1,000+ NACE industry codes used within VSME.
Our database includes normalised benchmarks covering GHG emissions, water, energy as well applicability data for various topics by industry i.e. do your peers think certain topics are applicable to them or can be excluded?
The benchmarks have been seamlessly integrated into the TurboVSME solution to offer the user a guided experience with much-needed reassurance that their approaches are in line with peers from the relevant industry.
Developed in collaboration with the accountancy industry
We were the first out of the blocks with a fully-functional online VSME solution that accountancies in the Nordics could start using with their clients. These accountancies then started requesting additional functionality that we have integrated into the tool so that it keeps getting better:
